Wall Street Journal

Here's how you find the Wall Street Journal. You could get a paper copy on the third floor in periodicals. The most recent edition is kept at the periodicals desk.

Or, you can read the Journal online in ABI Inform. You can browse a daily edition by setting the date to one day only.

Older editions (1889-1995) are available fulltext online at ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

Here's a complete list of our Wall Street Journal links.

Yahoo Finance Gets Political and Touts Yahoo Stock

I've noticed a major change at Yahoo Finance recently. Very hard-edged political articles (a big no-no for good investing) and articles that, well, appear to push the boundaries of conflict of interest. See this here (picture below).

Food for thought.

Financial Deals and Mergers

In Marketline Advantage you can search Financial Deals (which includes mergers) by company or industry.

Search your terms/company and get some results. Then select Financial Deals to the right.

Then look over to the right side of the screen. Even more options!

Lexis Nexis Searches Blogs

In a world where journalism often isn't asking the tough questions or writing intelligent thought pieces, there is the blogger.

Go to Lexis Nexis and search blogs on the News box to the left.

Zero Hedge
is a good one, authored by the mysteriously prolific Tyler Durden.

Historic Currency and Commodity Prices in Online New York Times Archives

You can get historic currency exchange rates, bond and interest rates, plus commodity prices, in old editions of our online New York Times.

Limit your search by date, and do a keyword search like price of gold, currency exchange, or similar words. There should be a brief article listing the prices.

Robots Writing Some Financial News Articles

Presented to better inform you about the nature of information out there in the world today.

Yes, artificial intelligence has progressed to the point that increasingly, news providers are creating content written by, for lack of a better word, robots.

Unfortunately, the world is not purely logical with fixed rules and completely knowable data sets and this is what robot written stories are going to miss.

Just like us turbo chimpanzees, you can also mess with robot minds.

By the way, check out this article about mechanical cockroaches influencing the behavior of other organic cockroaches. Don't be fooled!

Wake Up Everyday to the Wall Street Journal or Other Business News

Want to automatically receive daily news from the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Barron's or many, many other business titles? You can create an RSS feed that sends you a link to the daily news to your email, Google account, or other RSS readers.

Go to ABI Inform and click on publications. Browse or find the exact title you want. If there's a RSS icon next to the publication title, you can create a RSS feed for that title.

After the RSS is created, click on the URL and you will see several options for receiving the feed.

FYI: A lotta other databases allow you to create alerts or RSS feeds. Look for the option.

Update: Hmmm....there might be a one day delay on the Wall Street Journal RSS feed....but it's still cool.
