How To Find A Book Video Tutorial

This video shows you how to locate books at the Alkek Library.

Searching For (and Getting) Books We Don't Own

Here's how to find books and other materials that the Alkek Library doesn't own.
Use Worldcat to search the world's libraries at once. Request the item you want through interlibrary loan (for books, expect the process to take a minimum of 6 to 8 days). Tutorial also shows you how to search area libraries if you want to get the item immediately (if you have a Texshare card).

Goodreads Account for the Library

Ever wonder what to read next or how to find those hidden gems only a librarian would know?

Here's the economics section of our GoodReads.

Finding Books at the Library

A nice little video that shows you how to use the library catalog to look up books, e-books, DVDs and more!

Dude, Where's the Books on My Topic?

I bet you have entered in a few key words into our catalog and wondered why nothing comes up. Very often, the answer is that we have material on your topic but it's been classified with some arcane, uncommon words. To wit:

If you're interested in selling your product on the internet, the correct subject heading is electronic commerce. 'Cos computers use the 'lectricity? Hmmm..... Nafta is another one with a bizarre official subject heading....

In real life, you can get around this problem by starting out with your keyword search, finding something that seems relevant, and then clicking on the title. Now you can see what their subject headings are....
